Because it operates entirely on electricity, its fuel economy is measured in Miles Per Gallon equivalent (MPGe). Depending on how you equip the vehicle, the 500e achieves an exceptional combined rating of 110 to 116 MPGe. 

Battery, Range, and Tire Options To keep the vehicle incredibly lightweight and affordable, FIAT equipped the 500e with a compact 42.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This intentionally small battery yields a maximum driving range of up to 149 miles when the vehicle is equipped with optional summer tires (which allows it to hit that peak 116 combined MPGe rating). If you opt for the standard all-season tires, the range dips slightly to a still-practical 141 miles, resulting in a 110 combined MPGe rating. 

While 149 miles may not compete with the massive, heavy, long-range highway cruisers on the EV market, it is expertly tailored for its intended environment. The FIAT 500e is designed to be the ultimate daily commuter and grocery-getter, capable of handling days or even weeks of inner-city driving on a single charge. 

Performance and Urban Driving Dynamics Under the hood, the 500e utilizes a single electric traction motor mounted on the front axle, making it exclusively Front-Wheel Drive (FWD). This motor generates a modest but zippy 117 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Because electric motors deliver instantaneous torque, the 500e feels incredibly quick and responsive when pulling away from stoplights or navigating congested downtown traffic. 

To help drivers extract every ounce of efficiency from the battery, the 500e features three distinct drive modes: 

• Normal: Balances power and efficiency for everyday driving. 

• Range: Activates aggressive one-pedal driving, heavily utilizing regenerative braking to capture kinetic energy and feed it back into the battery.

Charging Capabilities Despite its small battery, FIAT did not skimp on charging technology. The 500e comes standard with 85-kW DC Fast Charging capability. At a compatible public fast-charging station, you can replenish roughly 31 miles of range in just five minutes, or take the battery from near-empty to 80% in about 35 minutes. For home charging, plugging into a standard Level 2 (240V) setup will fully recharge the vehicle in roughly 6.2 hours, making overnight charging effortless. 

Design, Tech, and Utility Weighing in at just under 3,000 pounds and measuring only 143 inches in length, the FIAT 500e is officially the lightest and smallest EV you can buy in the United States today. This diminutive footprint allows you to parallel park in spaces that traditional crossovers simply cannot fit into. 

Inside the cabin, the 500e punches above its weight class in technology. It features a brilliant 10.25-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 7-inch digital driver display.
